Puttur, November 1: Uppinangady Police received a complaint from an account holder who said they received a message that if he did not link his PAN card number to his savings bank account, his account would be blocked. He was told he could complete this process on his own and was directed to a fake website. Once he entered all the account details there, the entire balance of Rs 55,620 credited to his account was suddenly withdrawn.
Abdul Rahiman, a rickshaw driver residing at Kodange House in Tekkar village, Beltangady taluk, lost his money. He had received a message allegedly sent by the State Bank of India. He was told to link his PAN number to his account to prevent the account from being blocked. It was suggested that he use the website link to do so.
Rahiman, who saw that the message was from SBI, filled out the account details, after which all of his account balance was gone. He thought the money transfer required an OTP and therefore continued to enter the details without any apprehension. After seeing that his money had been misappropriated, he filed a complaint with the police.
